Kristina M. Heaton Telehealth In Person
Intern in Marriage and Family Therapy
Kristina believes that relationships are foundational to our lives and communities, and she considers it a privilege to walk alongside clients as they navigate challenges, strengthen their relationships, and move toward greater connection and understanding. She brings warmth, compassion, and curiosity to the therapeutic process, creating a space where clients can feel supported, unhurried, and comfortable being themselves. Rather than approaching therapy with assumptions or quick answers, Kristina seeks to understand each client’s unique experiences, relationships, and goals. Her approach draws from systems theory, attachment-based perspectives, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), play therapy, and other evidence-based practices, thoughtfully tailored to each client’s needs.
Kristina enjoys working with children and teens as they navigate the changes and challenges that come with growing up. She is particularly interested in supporting children and adolescents experiencing school stress, friendship challenges, anxiety, family conflict, adjustment difficulties, and blended-family dynamics. She believes children and teens are deeply influenced by the relationships and environments around them and values partnering with parents and caregivers to foster greater understanding, connection, and support. Her hope is to help young clients feel heard and understood while developing the skills and confidence to navigate their world.
Kristina is passionate about working with couples as they navigate both challenges and seasons of growth in their relationships. She has a particular interest in working with premarital couples and is Prepare/Enrich Certified. She also welcomes couples experiencing disconnection, communication challenges, conflict, infertility, and major life transitions. Kristina approaches couples therapy with compassion and curiosity, helping partners slow down, better understand one another, communicate more openly, and work toward a deeper sense of connection.
Kristina also values working with families who are navigating conflict, transitions, or changes in family relationships. She believes every family member has a unique perspective and an important place within the family, and she seeks to create a space where each person feels heard and valued. Through therapy, she works collaboratively with families to better understand one another, navigate difficult conversations, and develop healthier and more connected ways of relating. She also welcomes individuals who are seeking support as they navigate personal or relational challenges.
She welcomes clients from a variety of backgrounds and is open to incorporating clients’ faith or spirituality into therapy when it is meaningful to them, while providing a welcoming and respectful space for clients of all beliefs and backgrounds.
Kristina is an Intern in Marriage and Family Therapy pursuing licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Virginia. She is currently pursuing her M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Toccoa Falls and works under the supervision of Marianne Shirilla, MAMFC, LMFT, LPC.
Kristina offers both telehealth and in-person sessions. Therapeutic services are billed at a rate of $205 for an initial 60-minute intake session and $185 for each subsequent 55–60-minute sessions. While insurance coverage and reimbursement cannot be guaranteed, Kristina accepts Aetna, Cigna, Virginia Anthem BCBS, CareFirst DC Capital region plans – including FEPBlue, and out-of-state BCBS plans. In-network claims are billed through her supervisor. For out-of-network reimbursement, she can provide a statement for you to submit to your insurer. For clients experiencing financial hardship, Kristina participates in our Access Care Program which offers counseling at a reduced self-pay rate.
