Deborah (Debbie) A. Covert Telehealth
Licensed Resident in Counseling
You feel stuck. Something happened that left you in survival mode. You find yourself in between where you are and where you want to be. You are taking care of everyone but yourself. Therapy is where I get to come alongside you and help you move towards clarity and connection.
I work with teens, young adults, and adults who are navigating trauma, burnout, relationship concerns, depression, anxiety, and OCD.
It is hard to be a teenager these days. Research is showing record high numbers of depression and anxiety among teens, with one in five screening positive for depression or anxiety. There is pressure coming at teens from academics, social media, friends, and family. You are trying to figure out who you are, how to belong, and where you are going. And it feels like no one understands what you are going through. Let therapy be where you get to make sense of what you are feeling and find healthier ways to connect and cope.
Young adults, you have entered the most transition-dense phase of life. We’re talking changes with career, relationships, finances, identity, and your body. Relationships seem to have gotten more complicated. And no one told you how much grief there is in this season of life. The demands of these dynamic years can often intensify mental health conditions like PTSD, OCD, or depression. On the outside you look like you have it all together, but underneath you feel alone, overwhelmed, or that you have fallen behind. Therapy can help you pause, process where you’ve been and where you are, and work towards building a life of joy and connection.
Are you a global citizen? Do you serve in missions, ministry, or another helping profession? Are you a third culture kid or an immigrant? If so, your experiences often come with unique and complex layers. You are more likely to be exposed to traumatic events than the general population and you likely face more barriers to receiving mental health treatment. You are carrying a deep sense of responsibility for others, but that has led to burnout. You are quietly carrying grief and identity confusion. My own experience living and working overseas has fueled my passion for helping people navigate these complexities. Therapy is where we get to honor your story, understand all those layers, and journey with you as you cultivate resilience and healing.
My clinical approach integrates evidence-based practices including Attachment-Based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, and EMDR. I also offer premarital counseling as a certified facilitator with PREPARE/ENRICH. For clients who desire it, I welcome the integration of Christian faith into the therapeutic process, honoring both your emotional and spiritual journey.
I received my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regent University. I am a Licensed Resident in Counseling, License # 0704016340 which renews on the 06/30 of every year. I am actively pursuing a License in Professional Counseling (LPC) in the Commonwealth of Virginia and work under the supervision of Marianne G. Shirilla, MAMFC, LMFT, LPC-S.
I offer therapeutic services via telehealth, at a rate of $205 for an initial 60-minute session, and $185 per subsequent 55-60 minute session. Although guaranteed payment from insurance is not possible, I accept Aetna, BCBS, Anthem BCBS, CareFirst, Cigna, FepBlue, and out-of-state BCBS. All in-network insurance is billed through my supervisor. Should you desire out-of-network reimbursement, I will provide you with a statement to submit to your insurance company.
If you would like to schedule an appointment, please contact me or call 703-486-4999. You may also review my profile on Psychology Today. We’ll start with a free 20-minute consultation call. And if I am not the right person for what you are navigating, I’m committed to help you find a better fit.
Outside of the counseling office, you might find me embroidering, dancing, eating spicy food, or hiking with my husband. I love spending time with friends, family, and my church community.
