Licensed Resident in Counseling

Basma works with adults who feel weighed down by anxiety, burnout, trauma, depression, relationship stress, and the constant pressure to appear “put together” while struggling internally. She understands how overwhelming it feels to function at a high level while carrying responsibilities, expectations, and emotional pain that few people ever see. Many of her clients navigate identity questions, family expectations, cultural dynamics, or faith-related concerns that add layers of complexity to their experiences. Basma’s priority is to create a space where you feel understood, validated, and supported—without needing to explain your background or minimize your feelings.

Basma views therapy as a collaborative journey, one where every conversation offers an opportunity for clarity, growth, and relief. She has a special interest in supporting high-achieving adults, medical and corporate professionals, and first-generation clients who often feel overwhelmed by expectations, responsibilities, or the pressure to stay composed for everyone around them. She practices from a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and family-centered perspective, recognizing how past experiences, emotional wounds, relationship patterns, cultural expectations, and intergenerational dynamics shape well-being. Through evidence-based treatments—such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and solution-focused strategies—she helps clients understand their emotional patterns, strengthen boundaries, and experience meaningful “aha” moments that foster real change.

Before becoming a therapist, Basma spent many years as a dentist and healthcare consultant. This gives her a unique understanding of chronic stress, high-pressure environments, and the emotional toll of caregiving and helping professions. She is able to connect authentically with clients who carry a great deal but rarely feel they have space to slow down and care for themselves, especially those who are used to being the responsible one or the person others rely on.

As a bilingual therapist fluent in English and Arabic, Basma offers culturally attuned care that honors identity, family roles, and heritage. She understands how loyalty, privacy, community expectations, and generational differences influence emotional health. Many of her clients find themselves caught between honoring their culture and pursuing their own values or boundaries. Basma creates a space where you don’t have to translate your experiences or worry about being misunderstood—especially for Middle Eastern, North African, immigrant, and first-generation adults who want a therapist who truly “gets” the unspoken pressures they carry.

Basma earned her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University and is a Licensed Resident in Counseling (VA License #0704018704). She is under the supervision of Debra Rezendes, Ph.D., LMFT. She provides telehealth therapy for adults (21+) across Virginia and is currently accepting new clients.

Everyone deserves a life that feels grounded, peaceful, and connected. Basma is here to help you untangle stress, heal old wounds, and strengthen the relationships that matter most. Reach out for a free 20-minute consultation to share your concerns, ask questions, and explore how therapy can support you. Simply contact Basma or call (703) 570-5756.

Although guaranteed payment from insurance is not possible, she accepts Aetna, as well as most Anthem BCBS, CareFirst, Federal BCBS, and out-of-state BCBS plans through her supervisor’s billing.
