Licensed Resident in Counseling

Counseling should be a safe, judgement-free space for clients to explore the thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that may be holding them back. Cortney believes this is the foundation of effective, therapeutic care. She is passionate about people and understanding the stories that make them who they are today. She approaches every person’s circumstances uniquely to provide the best care for her clients. Cortney’s counseling career was catalyzed by the understanding that one can successfully journey through even the most complicated of hardships with help of authentic support and empathetic guidance.

Cortney enjoys working with adult individuals, couples, young adults, and teens ages 16 and above. She utilizes evidence-based treatment approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral and Emotion-Focused Therapies. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidenced-based treatment designed to help clients process and resolve trauma. In addition, Cortney is certified in the highly successful premarital counseling approach of SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts). She further believes in a client-centered approach and has a heartfelt desire to help clients achieve their goals, creating the basis for long-term health. Cortney is experienced in assisting clients with struggles such as depression, anxiety, life transitions, infidelity, family of origin issues, trauma, parenting skills, and communication skills.

Prior to graduate school, Cortney obtained a BS in Marketing from University of Alabama and worked for over a decade in marketing and sales at a Fortune 500 company. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Cortney loves quality time with her husband and three children. She also enjoys traveling, being a baseball mom, and watching college football. Though Cortney personally holds a Christian worldview, she is mindful and respectful of all religious and spiritual backgrounds.

Cortney earned a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. She is a Licensed Resident in Counseling in the Commonwealth of Virginia, license #0704015295, which renews on 10/31 every year. She is actively pursuing licensure as a Professional Counselor (LPC).
