Licensed Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy

Life can be full of challenges. You might feel stuck or hopeless in your marriage or relationship, or perhaps you’re feeling lonely after the loss of a loved one or a job. During these times, when you need help and direction the most, therapy can offer support, guidance, and empowerment to help you navigate life’s difficulties. I believe that with the right guidance, anyone can thrive. My goal is to help you recognize your personal strengths, build confidence, and ultimately overcome obstacles.

If you are considering therapy, I admire your courage in taking this important step toward self-discovery. I believe you’ll be surprised by your own potential and empowered to make positive changes in your life. Throughout this journey, you won’t be alone—I’ll be here to support.

Yuko believes that relationships are the most significant part of life and has a passion for helping couples, families, and individuals, including children. Yuko uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Gottman Method, and she is also working towards becoming a certified Emotionally-Focused Therapist. Emotionally-Focused Therapy is proven to be effective in helping couples reduce relational conflicts, communicate their feelings efficiently, and build trust and connections with their loved ones. Yuko also utilizes Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based treatment designed to help clients process and resolve trauma. Yuko is also a certified Prepare-Enrich therapist. The Prepare-Enrich program is a premarital and marriage assessment tool, using evidence-based skills and insights to foster healthy relationships.

Infertility is a challenge many individuals and couples face. Having personally experienced this journey, Yuko provides compassionate support and resources to those navigating the emotional and physical difficulties of infertility. She offers understanding and guidance to help clients through this painful path toward parenthood.

Having grown up in Japan, Yuko is sensitive to a diverse range of cultural issues and is fluent in both Japanese and English. She understands the complexities people face when transitioning into new lifestyles or cultures and has a deep awareness of the unique challenges experienced by interracial couples, being part of an interracial marriage herself.

Before pursuing a career in counseling, Yuko worked as a journalist, covering social, political, and economic issues. Through interviewing people from various backgrounds, she developed strong interpersonal skills, which now inform her approach as a therapist. Her desire to help others led her to serve in developing countries, working closely with underserved communities. In her 40s, Yuko began fulfilling her long-time dream of becoming a marriage and family therapist, bringing a wealth of life experience, empathy, and dedication to her practice.

Yuko's Strengths

Empathy

I deeply care about people and the pain they go through. Sometimes, all you need is someone willing to sit with you in your darkest moments, offering support without judgment.

As a therapist, I may need to share difficult truths that no one says to you. While it can be hard to hear, my goal is to earn your trust and offer insights that help you grow and heal.

Respect

I have immense respect for the courage it takes to seek therapy and change. Every client who is willing to grow, learn, and evolve has my admiration.

I’m not perfect as a therapist. I’m always open to feedback and ready to grow when I’m not meeting your needs. I believe in continually improving to better serve you.
